Wii Fit to the Rescue
July 9, 2008 – 4:16 pmA little over a month ago my husband started working out with the Wii Fit game, and has worked out almost every day since then. He set a goal to lose 20 pounds in a little over 2 months and he only has 3 pounds to go. I’m so proud of him and wish that I had the same drive that he does.
If you aren’t familiar with Wii Fit, it’s a game for the Nintendo Wii system that is more like a video game than an exercise program. It comes with what they call a balance board, which is basically like a step aerobics platform. That’s what you use to weigh in and to work out on. Even when doing something like crunches it tells you when your feet should be hitting the board in order for it to register or count towards your goal of 50, for example.
The great thing about Wii Fit is that it doesn’t even feel like you’re working out. There are categories like “Yoga,” which has several different yoga positions – the more you work out, the more positions you can unlock. It also has balance games that are super fun. In one game you play a goalie and other characters kick soccer balls at you. You have to use your body on the balance board to move into position in order to hit the balls with your head. Sounds weird, but it’s a lot of fun, and even fun to watch.
Then there are the standard Strength-Training programs that have crunches and squats and similar exercises. And even hula hooping, which is way harder than I remember it being when I was a kid. I want to fall down after doing it. Plus I want to beat my husband’s high score, so I work extra hard.
We weren’t sure if Wii Fit would stay fun and also keep kicking our butts with each work out. I can tell you that my husband still sweats like crazy every time he works out on it. You can keep changing the routine and intensity with each workout so it never gets stale or boring. With such a variety of games and exercises, the Wii Fit has something for everyone. It works your whole body and keeps you entertained.I would love to hear from other people who work out using the Wii Fit.-Jess
