Morning Huddles
July 14, 2008 – 8:41 amEvery morning I handwrite a “to-do list” of things that MUST get done before I leave the office. There is something refreshing about having a physical piece of paper and it’s very gratifying to cross each item off that list as my day progresses. As your staff prepares for their day, a morning huddle meeting provides a great opportunity to make a collective to-do list for the office. Reviewing the patients that will be seen and having each team member weigh in on what might be needed from each patient ensures that you are providing excellent quality of care. It also helps to assure that your team is communicating and running an efficient practice. Here are a couple quick tips for running an effective morning meeting:
- The start time should be the same every morning
- The entire team nees to be involved and be on time!
- Team members should come to the meeting prepared, already having reviewed charts and with their notes (i.e. “We need an updated health history from Mrs. Smith” or “Mr. Jones has a past due balance & needs to speak with the office administrator”).
- Create an element of fun – put someone in charge of a joke each day or maybe an inspirational thought. It’s a great way to end the meeting on a good note.
You’ll be surprised at how just a little organization (like my handwritten to do list) can really help keep things in line and running smoothly. Do you have any tips for morning meetings? We’d love to hear!
