Cat Toy Experiment
July 23, 2008 – 6:57 amWhen we decided to add the new KONG® Naturals cat toys to our Veterinary catalog, I was curious. Which of these toys would cats like the best? I decided to take matters into my own hands and perform a very unscientific experiment with my fiancé’s trusty sidekick, Taito the cat.
Hypothesis: I figured Taito would sniff the toys, bat the mice around for a while, ignore the rest of the toys, and then walk away. After all, he is 17 years old (that’s 84 in human years!) and he doesn’t have time for such nonsense. He has better things to do, like sleep.
Experimental Method: I lined up all the toys in a row while Taito was in the other room where he couldn’t see what I was doing. Then I brought him in to see which toy would attract his attention first.
Results: Taito sniffed each toy one by one, and then began attacking them. He was immediately drawn to the furry mice and then to the straw toys with feathers. He didn’t really care for the teaser toy on a stick, until we picked it up and started moving it around for him to chase.
Conclusion: Well, my hypothesis was completely wrong. I didn’t give senior-citizen Taito enough credit. I think the catnip in these toys put some extra pounce in Taito’s step. His favorite is definitely the teaser toy. Now he drags it around the house to wherever we are and meows until we move it around. So, my curiosity is satisfied; Taito has a clear winner: KONG® Naturals Crinkle Tail Teaser. And I also learned a lesson along the way: You’re never too old to get new toys!
